At over 75 years of age, the classic design, seaworthiness and the love and dedication it instils in its owners, has made the LLOD a feature of the Clyde and River Alde for over half a century.

The Loch Long was launched by members of the Loch Long Sailing Club to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. More than 130 boats have been built, with over 100 believed to still exist. The design is based on the Scandinavian Stjärnbåten.

There are active racing fleets at Cove Sailing Club and Royal Gourock Yacht Club on the Clyde and Aldeburgh Yacht Club on the River Alde in Suffolk. The fleet at Aldeburgh is the largest in the UK with over 40 boats.

The Loch Longs are a very welcome competitor to Cowes Classics Week, bringing fleets to the event every 2-3 years. They compete for a limited edition print by local Cowes sailor and artist Mike Till.
